Hair

Hair

Hair refers to the protein filament that grows from follicles found in the dermis, or skin.

Hair grows faster than other protein filaments and has an average growth of 0.3 mm or 0.4 mm per day. According to observation, very hair strand grows independently and has layover periods which means that while a hair falls, another may grow.  However, it is not so for a new born child. All of the hair is seen to exist in the same stage. Thus, a 2-3 week old child may lose all the hair together. This is rectified from the age of 6 months and onwards.

Different hair shapes are influenced by different factors. These factors are age, race, sex and hormones. For example, an African has 3 layers of tissue and a tendency to have curly hair. Whereas, talk about a person from the Far East and this changes to 11 layers and a growth tendency towards straight hair. Hair seemingly adapts according to the surrounding conditions and time.
